Samsung LN55C650 Review

It’s obvious that you’ve come to this page because of what you’ve heard about the Samsung group of HDTVs.  It is an excellent brand but has a lot of competition from the other major manufacturers.  You also are thinking that you want to stick with an LCD TV as they tend to be more reasonably priced than the LED models.  With that in mind, here’s what I’m going to discuss…

First, I’d like to talk about how the LN55C650 differs from its competition and what its features are.  Then I’m going to tell you what real life customers thought of the set, both good and bad.  By the end, you’ll know everything you need to know to buy one for yourself.

What Makes the LN55C650 Stand Out?

As all of the major TV manufacturers make decent 55 inch LCD models, it requires something special to make a particular model stand out. 

The Samsung LN55C650 accomplishes that by delivering blacker blacks.

The one feature that makes or breaks an LCD picture is the sharpness of its image.  That is accomplished by accentuating the contrast by making the black extra deep.  This makes the colors, by comparison, really pop out to deliver a super-sharp image.  As Samsung has perfected the deeper black, the picture depth-perception is superior to anything else available.

It also doesn’t hurt that its additional features are excellent, as well, and serve to set it apart from all the others.

Features for the Samsung LN55C650:

~ As with previous models, the LN55C650 has the Wide Color Enhancer Pro technology which provides a full spectrum of color for a fantastic picture quality.  It has been reported that the Ultra Clear Panel technology provides superior depth-perception and color richness, but can cause some screen glare.  This is a minor complaint, however, when compared with the final product.

~ The Auto Motion Plus 120 Hz Clear Motion Rate provides action sequences which are virtually blur-free.  It may not be necessary, however, for normal viewing of HD broadcasts and can be easily turned off.

~ The four HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connections make it easy to keep DVD players and other A/V components constantly available for viewing. It also has PC audio and video inputs, and an Ethernet port for network connection. Wi-fi is only available if the Ethernet is plugged into a wireless router.  The Anynet+ feature allows you to control the peripherals with the Samsung TV remote control.

~ One of the best features of the LN55C650 is Samsung Apps.  These apps provide widgets for Blockbuster, Twitter, Netflix, Pandora and Hulu.  As with most streaming video, while the delivery is smooth, the picture quality is not up to the standard of HD broadcast and Blu-ray quality.   

~ The Game Mode expands on the gaming experience by enhancing the image dark areas, sharpening the picture and amplifying the game sounds.   

~  Much has been made of the Touch of Color design.  This is merely a hint of red color in the bezel surrounding the screen.  While it is attractive, it doesn’t add much, if anything, to the viewing experience. 

~ Of more significance is the stand which comes with the TV.  The stand allows the unit to swivel 20 degrees, but tends to wobble during movement.  This would suggest that mounting the TV on the wall would be a better option. 

~ The SRS TheaterSound enhances the audio to simulate a theater experience. The SRS TruDialog allows the adjustment of vocal output to allow it to be heard more clearly over background sounds. Unlike the Toshiba 55G300U, the sound level on this unit is exceptional and can stand up to the noisiest of rooms.

The Last Word:

The Samsung LN55C650 is a fantastic TV.  The image quality, brawny sound system and additional features make this an outstanding buy.
